Michael B. Cefole Named President & CEO

On behalf of William D. Rueckert, Board Chair for the YMCA Retirement Fund, we are excited to announce the selection of Michael B. Cefole to be the next President and Chief Executive Officer of the Fund.

When the Fund’s CEO Search Committee and Board embarked on a search for the next President and CEO, they understood that they needed to find a person who could lead the Fund’s volunteer board and skilled management team in this difficult environment, while also being very knowledgeable about the complexities and the nuances of managing the liability side of a pension fund. The Committee undertook a rigorous search process that spanned six months, and they concluded – and the Board affirmed – that Mike Cefole is the ideal person to take the reins of the Fund as we embark on our second century of service to the YMCA Movement.

Mike succeeds Scott Dolfi, whose leadership at the Fund was transformational. Scott built a strong Executive Leadership Team which has been led by Mike as Interim President & CEO since July 2022. Mike joined the Fund as its Chief Financial Officer in 2020, bringing extensive experience in annuities and retirement plans, as well as a unique combination of finance, actuarial, plan design, and regulatory experience. As CFO, he advanced the financial operations of the organization, while also developing strategies that ensure the long-term stability of the Fund.

Prior to joining the Fund, Mike was President of Everest Advisory Partners, a firm providing consulting services to the retirement industry. He also worked for Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, where he was the President of the company’s retirement businesses and was the CFO of their Group Benefits business. Mike has also worked for the Hartford Financial Services Group for over 20 years where he held a variety of business and financial leadership roles.

He has served on a variety of industry boards, including the Employee Benefits Research Institute and the SPARK Institute, and is currently the chair of the Scholarship Foundation of the Connecticut Society of CPAs. Mike currently serves on the board of directors of the Church Benefits Association and the Church Alliance. Mike earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Hartford and is a Certified Public Accountant.

The Fund’s mission was never more important than today: To empower YMCA employees to achieve economic security, enabling them to focus on strengthening communities through their work for the YMCA. We are happy for Mike to be the Fund’s next President and CEO, and the YMCA Movement is very lucky to already have him in our family.
