We Offer Financial Support To Retirees In Crisis

The YMCA Retirement Fund’s Retiree Emergency Assistance Program (REAP) provides grants to help YMCA retirees who find themselves in a financial crisis. This program is supported by a generous gift from Peter E. Berger and proceeds from the Harold C. Smith Fundraiser.

Retirees with emergencies that fall within the following categories are eligible to apply for a REAP grant:

  • Medical: Expenses, not covered by insurance, incurred by me, my spouse and/or my dependents
    Examples include itemized bills from medical/pharmaceutical providers and funeral expenses (Cost of health insurance is excluded)
  • Shelter: Expenses to prevent foreclosure/eviction from my primary residence
  • Natural Disaster: Expenses, not covered by insurance, incurred to repair damage to my primary residence due to an act of nature or FEMA-declared disaster
    Examples include tornado, fire, earthquake, flood
  • Other: Expenses to alleviate other financial crises
    Examples include domestic abuse, dental repair/replacement, emergency medical transportation
