Contributions to Y Retirement accounts grow with daily compounding interest and when Y employees are ready to retire, they can convert their money into lifetime income—a protected stream of monthly payments—for the rest of their lives.
Y Retirement is Safe and Secure
Since 1922, account balances at Y Retirement have never gone down and retirement payments have never been missed. Our dedicated team of investment professionals manage the risks across a diversified portfolio, so Y employees don’t have to.
One Fund, Two Plans
Y Retirement Plans incorporate features of both defined contribution and defined benefit plans, meaning we help participants accumulate retirement savings AND receive guaranteed income for life. The Y Retirement benefit is more flexible than a defined benefit plan (offering some plan portability) and provides more safety than a typical defined contribution plan by managing investment and longevity risk.
401(a) Retirement Plan
Those employees who are eligible for the 401(a) Retirement Plan receive a generous contribution to their accounts, which may be entirely covered by the Y, or shared between the employer and employee.
403(b) Savings Plan
Available to all employees of participating Ys beginning on their first day of employment, regardless of age, hours worked, length of service, or compensation. Savings are allowed on a tax-deferred or Roth basis.

This is why each participating YMCA is assigned experts from the Y Relations Team to support you in administering the benefit, and help your employees make the most out of their savings.

Our Y Relations Team is happy to provide personalized education opportunities for your Y employees virtually or in-person. From understanding the basics of the benefit, to learning more about financial wellness in retirement, we’re here to support your employees every step of the way.

As a participating YMCA, your employees have access to individualized support from our team. While our team can’t provide specific advice, we can discuss your employees’ unique retirement goals, and help them understand their options with the Y Retirement benefit.

24/7 Learning Center Access
In addition to in-person or virtual support, employees at participating Ys, regardless of their 401(a) Retirement Plan eligibility status, can access the Y Retirement Learning Center anytime, anywhere. They can participate in eLearnings, watch videos, and read FAQs—all at their own pace.
