Rev. Dr. Harold C. Smith
[1934 - 2017]

Dear Colleagues,

I am deeply saddened to report the passing of my esteemed predecessor, Rev. Dr. Harold C. Smith, on March 21, 2017.

He first joined the Fund in 1958 and retired in 2000. He rose to become President,
CEO and CIO in 1983. During his 17-year tenure, the Fund experienced unprecedented growth in membership and assets under his management.

He shared his wisdom by serving on numerous boards and committees of for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, including the Springfield College Board of Trustees, the YMCA of Greater New York Board of Directors and International Branch Board of Managers (chairman), the YMCA International Program Services Committee (chairman), the Ursinus College Board of Trustees in Collegeville, PA, and the Y Mutual Insurance Company and Coins/Investment Company (treasurer).

In 2001, he was inducted into the YMCA Hall of Fame, which is located at Springfield College.

Please take a moment to view this short video of Harold reflecting on his time with the YMCA. It truly demonstrates Harold's passion for the YMCA Movement and for making people's lives better.

We will miss Harold's generosity, wise counsel, and extraordinary vision. We will always remember his commitment to the values of the YMCA.
