In Memoriam: Jane S. Kirk

Dear Colleagues,

We were saddened to learn of Jane Kirk’s passing on May 22, 2018. She was a devoted member of the YMCA and served on the YMCA Retirement Fund’s Board of Trustees from 1982 to 1991. An active member of the Board, Ms. Kirk held positions in many of the Fund’s Committees and served as Chairman of the Fund’s Personnel Committee.

Jane S. Kirk and YRF Board of Trustees

Jane Kirk was drawn to nonprofit work early in her career. After graduating from Duke University in 1950, she joined the Red Cross and traveled overseas to aid U.S. military personnel stationed in countries all over the world, including Korea, France, and Morocco.

Following her employment with the Red Cross, Ms. Kirk accepted a position with the YMCA in 1961. She worked for regional YMCAs in Newport, Omaha, and Newark, before joining Y-USA’s headquarters in Chicago, IL. During her 23-year tenure at Y-USA, she focused on fundraising and led 13 capital campaigns to raise money for the YMCA.

In 1993, Jane Kirk retired and moved to Nelson, New Hampshire, where she continued to volunteer and serve her community. She was elected to her small town’s Board of Selectman and served as Chair of the Board in 2002. She also founded Jane’s Kids, a program that provides clothing to children in need. Established nearly thirty years ago, the program was named in Ms. Kirk’s honor and has helped thousands of children.

Jane Kirk dedicated her life to serving others and her extraordinary 32-year YMCA career is an inspiration to all of us. We will always remember her incredible work and altruistic spirit.
