Honoring Those Who Served on Memorial Day
On Memorial Day, we honor the U.S. military and remember the strong connection between the YMCA and the armed forces.

Memorial Day 2018

On Monday, May 28, the YMCA Retirement Fund will observe Memorial Day. This day calls upon all of us to remember the brave men and women who served in the military and sacrificed their lives to protect our country.

Memorial Day also reminds us of the organizations that aid members of the military and their families. There is a strong connection between the armed forces and the YMCA. The YMCA’s proud history of serving the military began during the Civil War. In 1861, YMCA volunteers provided aid to soldiers in nearby encampments and accompanied soldiers to the battlefields.

Today, the YMCA continues to honor its legacy of supporting the United States military. For more than 150 years, the Armed Services YMCA
(ASYMCA) has provided programs and services to military members and their families. The YMCA Retirement Fund is a proud supporter of the ASYMCA. As a non-profit organization, the ASYMCA does not receive federal funding and is entirely dependent on private donations. Learn more about the ASYMCA by visiting www.asymca.org.
