Honoring all who served in the United States Armed ForcesThis Veterans Day, we honor those brave men and women who have protected our country. This national holiday is an important reminder to thank our veterans for their commitment and service. For more than 150 years, the Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) has provided free or low-cost programs and services to military members and their families, such as child care, after-school programs, and camps. The non-profit organization is a national member association of the YMCA of the USA and operates more than 200 service centers nationwide, along with seven sites abroad. The proud heritage of the Armed Services YMCA dates back to 1861 during the Civil War when dedicated YMCA volunteers provided relief and comfort to sick and wounded soldiers. This year, due to challenges caused by the pandemic, the organization’s impact and outreach are more important than ever. Military families are also experiencing the financial impact and emotional struggles, including food insecurity, unemployed spouses, and increased need for child care. With hundreds of thousands of service members deployed overseas, it is important to recognize the daily sacrifices made by military families. At the YMCA Retirement Fund, we stand in support of the Armed Services YMCA and thank all of those who dedicate their lives to our country. November 11, 2020
